What is veganism? The Cambridge Dictionary defines a vegan as follows: A person who does not eat or use any animal products, such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy (cheese), bee, or leather. Below you will find 5 easy steps to help you transition to veganism.
How to transition to living a NO MEAT or ANIMAL PRODUCTS lifestyle ? I began by leading a mainly vegetarian lifestyle before making the switch. I ate mostly cooked vegetables, and some fish. In my case, I was already struggling with non vegan food – my gut would just rebel.
But about 6 years ago, I just woke up one day and decided to go full vegan – no animal flesh or products and predominantly all raw plant based . However, I will eat some cooked vegetables from time to time in response to my body’s needs. I cleaned out the cupboards and my wardrobe and I have to say it was relatively easy.
I did experience some interesting physiological responses so for those of you needing some help here are some simple steps you can follow.
Ask yourself why you are making the choice to embrace veganism as a lifestyle choice. Is it for ethical reasons? In other words…to preserve the life of another sentient being. Is it to help rid your body of illness naturally? Are you concerned about the health of our planet? Animal Agriculture is a huge problem today and governments around the world are trying desperately to reduce pollution caused by intense animal agriculture (ie rearing animals for food).
Here is a great extract from a recent James Aspey presentation held here at the former GoVegan Deli in Noosa a few years ago.
James is a young man who chose not to speak for 365 days to draw attention to the plight of animals. A former ‘meat eating’ personal trainer, he developed cancer at age 17 and on his journey back to good health, James made some important discoveries. Just click on the image below to hear what he has to say in this 34 sec clip.
Whether it’s for the animals’ sake or for your own health, may I suggest you get clear, as this will help keep you motivated from day to day.
Check to see your gut is functioning properly. A lot of people forget the human body is a functioning bio-machine demanding clean food daily. Over the generations it has become conditioned to operate using prescriptive and enforced dietary approach.
The Anglo method of agriculture – meat, wheat, dairy, grains and white sugar – is responsible for a lot of gut ache and disease – so much so that the gut muscle has been damaged. Mine was nearly wrecked but, the good news is, the body has remarkable ‘repair skills’ and the gut muscle will rebuild itself when given a helping hand.
I used Green Papaya Powder to help break down my food, thus relieving stress from the actual muscle function. In fact, the green papaya powder saved my life – NO MORE PAIN! and free of symptoms associated with undernourishment. My gut muscle began to work properly and when I chose to eat only plant-based foods, I had no difficulty whatsoever.
I suggest integrating alternatives to animal products each day. In my Let’s Eat Raw Recipe Book there are great alternatives for milk, cheese and bread.
Whilst bread is part of the gluten story, these three food groups are part of the ‘comfort’ package for most people. Finding recipes and doing these slowly, one by one is the key.
The emergence of nut milks as an alternative to cow’s milk is gathering momentum. Provide an environment for your self to grow into this new way of living with EASE & GRACE.
Here’s a link to an earlier YouTube video I did on how to make nut milk which I know will be helpful. Look for other videos online which are designed to support your growing awareness.
You can use pre-soaked almonds to achieve the same outcome. Check out this link to my website and access to more videos. CLICK HERE
Buy recipe books and collect recipes, which enables you to build up your repertoire of vegan recipes. There are plenty of free recipes online too and you can Download 7 simple recipes from my website with my compliments.
Essentially, you can even have fun just leaving the ‘meat’ or animal products out of a recipe and seeing what happens. You do not need to go raw. A cooked plant based vegan meal is a wonderful start.
My second recipe book, Raw Vegan Meals , contains a fabulous set of menus taking in a whole lot of beautiful flavours. I endeavored from the outset to eat food that was sweet, sour, salty, savoury, creamy and crunchy. This way all your senses will be served and your body will love you for it.
Follow the leaders! There is a fast growing awareness of veganism globally now thanks to the recent success of many athletes (including Olympians) who have adopted the vegan lifestyle.
Stand your ground. When people make choices which go against the grain of a consensual belief-based society, other people become challenged and upset. Watch and share the many videos that are available for free on YouTube. Trust me, they will have much more impact that us trying to explain our reasons to others.
Believe in the choice you have made and despite the inevitable pressure from family and friends, know that your decision is YOUR decision.
A lot of very powerful things happen when your stop eating animals, not just for your body but also the planet.
