Hello. I'm Scott Mathias. I am a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (NY) and the author of four internationally published books on whole food plant based eating and gut health.
TWELVE YEARS AGO, I nearly choked to death following a massive reflux attack in my sleep. When it happened again a week later, I knew I was in trouble and needed to do something. I googled something around acid reflux and what came up were 3 articles that caught my attention.
1) Inability to break down proteins
2) Proteolytic enzymes
3) Green Papaya Powder.
I realised that my gut was not breaking down proteins properly and that also affected the acid levels in my gut. I wasn't eating any meat but wheat and dairy were a big part of my diet back then. I dug a little deeper and came across green papaya powder and the first night I took it, I was able to sleep lying down. Following my recovery which took me about 18 months to feel fully fit and well again, I chose to do more research into the issue of the gut being responsible for most illness. In other words, if the gut is not breaking down food properly then there are 'downstream' implications. My work today revolves around helping others to find the CAUSE of their illness and work from there.
